Non-destructive precious metal analysis

See what's really
in the gold.

Benchtop XRF analyzers that verify gold, platinum, palladium and silver purity in under 30 seconds — no acids, no melting, no destructive assay. The EDX-B3, EDX-B6 & EDX-B9, engineered under the Aurispec precision standard.

Why non-destructive testing

Test the metal.
Keep the piece.

Traditional acid and fire-assay testing damages the very item you're trying to value — a scratch on a ring, a nick on a bar, a melted corner of a coin. X-ray fluorescence (XRF) reads the metal's elemental fingerprint without touching it.

A focused X-ray beam excites the sample's atoms; as electrons fall back into place, each element emits a characteristic energy signature — gold's is distinct from silver's, which is distinct from copper's. An Amptek (USA) silicon drift detector captures that signature, and the analyzer's software reports composition and purity directly on screen.

It's the same principle used in jewelry stores, refineries, pawnshops and quality-control labs worldwide — this page is a draft showcase of three benchtop models built around it: the EDX-B3, EDX-B6 and EDX-B9.

The EDX Benchtop Series

Three analyzers. One non-destructive method.

Manufactured under the Aurispec engineering standard. Each model shares the same FP core algorithm and digital pulse processing — the difference is throughput, resolution and the scale of operation each is built for.

Why teams switch to XRF

The same four capabilities run through the entire EDX-B series, whichever model fits your counter or your lab.

01

Fully non-destructive

No fire assay, no acid strip. The item goes back to the customer exactly as it came in.

02

No calibration required

The FP (fundamental parameter) core algorithm reads composition without matrix-matched reference standards.

03

30-element read-out

A single scan can identify up to 30 metal elements — useful for spotting base-metal fills and platings.

04

Built to last on the counter

Air-cooled tube technology and a fourth-generation digital pulse processor extend service life under daily use.

Where these analyzers work

Frequently asked

Before you reach out

The sample is placed in the test chamber and scanned by X-rays — nothing is cut, melted, dissolved, or plated onto. The item is returned to the customer unchanged.
No. The EDX series uses an FP (fundamental parameter) core algorithm, which calculates composition from the physics of the spectrum rather than requiring matrix-matched reference standards for each job.
XRF reads the elemental composition at and near the surface, which makes it effective for flagging base-metal cores under plating. For very thin platings or layered constructions, ask us about the right test settings and sample prep for your case.
All three share the same non-destructive method, FP algorithm and multi-element read-out. The B3 suits everyday counter use, the B6 adds throughput and duty-cycle headroom for busier operations, and the B9 steps up to an Amptek (USA) Fast SDD detector for higher count-rate throughput in lab-grade, high-volume testing environments.
Most single-item scans complete in well under a minute, though exact timing depends on the element set requested and the precision level selected. Ask us for timing on your specific sample types.
